  Absolutely terrible experience! We booked an economy/compact car 3 weeks in advance in preparation for a trip we had scheduled from July 11th to the 17th. It seemed simple enough, however, when we arrived to pick up the car they did not have any economy/compacts. I was told that, while my booking was on file (so no mistakes on mine or Hotwire's end), I needed to upgrade my car as they only had an Altima available.
  
  When I asked how much this would cost I was told it would add roughly $115 to our bill (our original reservation was for $260, whereas this upgrade would cost us $375). I inquired if (since again I had booked this car well in advanced and it was the fault of company) they could possibly match our original price.
  
  We were flippantly told that Avis no longer offered price matching. We then noticed signs on display that mentioned a promotion that was connected to liking their Facebook page. We asked if that could be a possible deal we could apply to maybe lessen the cost of this upgrade. Unfortunately, the clerk (who seemed annoyed with us by this point) behind the counter had no idea, and claimed he had never seen those signs before we pointed them out... despite them being located right in front.
  
  Since our trip hinged on a rental, I desperately asked if there were any other options available to us but was met with the ultimatum: take a car out of our price range or cancel the reservation. We went with the latter.
  
  Thankfully, Enterprise in Edison was able to accommodate us last minute. We were able to secure a compact car in our price range with them over the phone in under ten minutes. They drove the car over from another shop and even stayed after closing time to get us settled. Not only were they lifesavers but the staff was extremely nice despite us being the last customers of the day.
  
  Lesson learned. Always pick Enterprise over Avis.
